Flood Field Backstop Renovation

Continuing Our Investment in Flood Field

Flood Field was successfully renovated in partnership with the local council in 2023, significantly improving the playing surface and overall usability of the site.

The proposed backstop upgrade represents the next stage of infrastructure development building on that investment to improve safety, durability, and long-term sustainability.

Why This Upgrade Is Needed

  • Structural supports currently encroach on the edge of the field, which is also used as a pedestrian footpath

  • These supports present a potential health and safety risk to pedestrians, particularly during evening games and in low light conditions

  • The existing structure requires annual repairs, including replacement plywood and sections of chainlink fencing

  • Limited foul ball containment results in ongoing equipment replacement costs

  • Continued patch repairs are not a sustainable long-term solution

This upgrade allows us to move from reactive maintenance to proactive infrastructure improvement.

What The Upgrade Will Deliver

  • Removal of the current backstop structure

  • Repositioning to improve clearance from pedestrian areas

  • Installation of high-durability panels and reinforced framing

  • Enhanced foul ball containment

  • Reduced ongoing maintenance requirements

  • A professional and resilient long-term solution

Why It Matters

The 2023 field renovation demonstrated what can be achieved through partnership and forward planning.

This backstop upgrade highlights our continued commitment to:

  • Public safety

  • Responsible stewardship of council-supported facilities

  • Financial sustainability

  • Raising standards across all levels of the club

Next Steps

  • Final design and technical specification

  • Supplier confirmation

  • Budget publication

  • Installation scheduling

Further detailed project documentation will be shared in due course.
