Umpiring for Richmond Baseball
Calling all Umpires!
New to the 2024 season, Richmond baseball wants to develop the next crop of umpires in Britain by trailing a new initiative where we will be offering cash back for every game you ump.
This will also help develop the skills and experience needed for those looking to umpire with the BBF.
If you umpire a single game behind the plate, we will offer £20 cashback
If you umpire a double header behind the plate, we will provide £40 cashback.
This is only applicable for home games at Connare or Flood field. You do not have to be rostered to the same team you are umping for, nor are you limited on how often you ump.
To be able to Participate, you must:
Be registered with the club.
Have completed Level 1 Training (Found at the bottom of the page)
Once you have umped a game, please fill out the form below to be eligible for your cashback:
Richmond Policy on Umpiring
1) For home games, managers of Richmond must ensure there is an umpire for the game.
2) The umpire must either be:
Richmond Trained Ump (Level 1)
A BBF accredited umpire
A umpire who can provide evidence of training.
3) If none of the 3 options above are available, a player within the team will need to ump for free.
4) All umpires (Richmond Trained Level 1, a player within the team, BBF, or independent) must wear full protection and sit behind the catcher. Umpires are not allowed to call balls and strikes from behind the pitcher.
5) If teams wish to have a BBF Umpire or an independent umpire who is not affiliated with Richmond Baseball, the club will pay £20 towards each game, with the rest covered by the teams players. BBF Umpires charge £105 per game.
Richmond Level 1 Umpire Training
The Level 1 - Introduction to Umpiring course will be carried out on Saturday, March 9th at 11:30 on Connare Field.
Anyone interested in learning the skills to umpire the game of Baseball are welcometo join this clinic.
This will led by BBF umpires Bill Varon & Chris Goldsmith, along with BBF Director of umpires, Gabor Erdos.
Once you have attended this Level 1 Training, you will then be eligable to umpire a Richmond Home game and receive the £20 cash back.
Alternatively, you can brush up on the below BBF Umpring handbook and once you feel you have a good grasp of the game, we can put you in for a trial for one of our lower leagues to get some experience!
